The Saxmundham & District Community Interest Company (SADCIC) is a local social enterprise, formed, in 2007, by local volunteers, to encourage and support the economic, social, health and environmental wellbeing of all the people of Saxmundham and the surrounding area (IP17).

SADCIC was originally encouraged to set up, with seed corn funding,

by Suffolk Coastal District Council, supported by Saxmundham Town Council,

to help source alternative funding and add to local amenities.

Its current work with the Fromus Centre involves partnership working with Suffolk County Council.

In 2022, 15 years of persistent effort by SADCIC,

the new Fromus Saxmundham Community Centre was finally, formally opened.

SADCIC aims to help regenerate Saxmundham and build community cohesion.

All the directors of SADCIC are local volunteers.

Following extensive, and continuing, research and consultation covering over 5,500 households in the IP17 post-code area, the Samundham Community Plan was created.

SADCIC had also been working with Suffolk County Council to transform the redundant Saxmundham Middle School into an exciting Community Enterprise Centre, but these plans had to be abandoned when the Government granted the Woodbridge-based charity,

The Seckford Foundation Free School Trust

the go-ahead to proceed with their plan for a Saxmundham Free School.

However, on October 1st, 2011, SADCIC took over the building and facilities management of the Saxmundham Community Resource Centre from Suffolk County Council,

and renamed it The Fromus Centre.

By 2018, the longer-term plan was to transpose the groups and activities

from the current building

into a new, purpose-built, two-storey premise with c.600+ sq.m. of floorspace,

within the current grounds of the (Seaman Avenue) Fromus Centre site.

However, the funding bid to the Lottery for £800k was declined - as the towm was too large and was seen to be the responsibilty of the district and county councils - and now the likelihood of a new centre slipped until 2021...

Based on past and current demand, the new Fromus Centre,

owned and managed by SADCIC,

was planned to include include:

  • Reception / Office
  • A Large Hall for general community / indoor keep fit
  • Meeting Rooms
  • A multi-purpose Kitchen
  • A Community Café (to seat at least 30)
  • A Multi-Media Training Room (to hold up to 20)
  • A Lift
  • Disabled Toilets, including a special 'Changing Places' toilet.
  • Storage cupboards
  • Parking (c.40 spaces)
  • Plus additional office space.

SADCIC is a Community Interest Company because we believe its social aims are best met by running as a business model - to ensure long-term financial sustainability.

"The Community Interest Company does what it says on the tin. The concept is straightforward.

It has the interests of its community at heart and proves this by agreeing to regulatory oversight

of the use of its assets and social purpose and by providing transparency in the way it operates."

Sara Burgess, CIC Regulator

The directors of The Saxmundham & District Community Interest Company,

who are all passionate local residents, are proud to have been granted CIC status.

It represents a charitable enterprise with a business model and an inclusive brand.

The creation of local community development companies is actively encouraged by the Government and SADCIC was formed with the active local support of Saxmundham Town Council, Suffolk Coastal District Council, the Suffolk Coastal Local Strategic Partnership, Suffolk County Council

and the Big Lottery Fund.
